The Way of Huang-Lao (Huáng-Lǎo Dào 黃老道) was the most influential Chinese school of thought during Former Han early in the 2nd century BC. Its origins stem from the half-historical, half-legendary Yellow Emperor (Huángdì 黃帝) and the sage Laozi 老子 ("Old Master").

The premise of Huang-Lao is that enlightened leadership can bring peace and prosperity to the land by adhering to the principles found in Laozi and other guiding texts of daoism.

The Yellow Turban leader Zhang Jue is described as an adept of the Huang-Lao teachings.[1]
