Wang Du 王度 was an assistant magistrate of Dong’a county. When the Yellow Turban Rebellion broke out in 184 AD he joined the rebels.

BiographyEdit

Before the Yellow Turbans rebelled, Wang Du was an assistant magistrate of Dong’a county, but when the Rebellion broke out in 184 AD Wang Du decided to join the rebels. He burned down the food stored in the warehouse, and instigated his subordinates to seize the city.[1][2] He was, however, unable to hold the city in which he rebelled and led the people into the hills outside the city and set up a camp there. The local gentleman Cheng Yu 程昱, together with the local clan leader Xue Fang 薛方 then convinced the refugees that Wang Du had left the city. So the people returned to the city and when Wang Du found out he attacked them. The refugees rallied and defeated him.[3]

NotesEdit

  1. Because Wang Du worked, rebelled and fought in Dong commandery this is likely to be his home commandery.
