Ts’ao Ts’ao and the Rise of Wei: The Early Years is a dissertation written by the late Carl Leban in 1971. It is about the northern warlord Cao Cao (Ts’ao Ts’ao) and his road to power. Aside from facts Carl Leban presents the reader with many well-argued probabilities.

It more or less begins with the Yellow Turban Rebellion and ends with the Battle of Guandu.
