Qu Yi 麴義 was an officer who served Yuan Shao 袁紹. Qu Yi played an important role in the destruction of Gongsun Zan and was arguably Yuan Shao's finest general.

Biography

During the Battle of Jieqiao, Qu Yi was sent by Yuan Shao with a handful of men, Gongsun Zan 公孫瓚 was not afraid of this small force led by Qu Yi. Gongsun Zan's general, Yan Gang 嚴綱 however, went into Qu Yi's trap and was beheaded by him. Yuan Shao's forces led by Qu Yi pursued Gongsun Zan to Jie Bridge, Gongsun Zan turned and fought back, but Qu Yi defeated his soldiers and later captured Gongsun Zan's main camp which resulted in Gongsun Zan retreating.[1] in 191 A.D., Qu Yi was later was executed by Yuan Shao due to his exceeding arrogance. Qu Yi's family escaped Yuan Shao and changed their family name from Qú 麴 to Qū 曲.
