Ma Dai 馬岱 was a Shu-Han general and a younger cousin of Ma Chao.

Biography[]

According to Ma Chao, many of his relatives had been killed by Cao Cao after he orchestrated the Liangzhou Rebellion, with only Ma Dai surviving the purge. Ma Chao fled to take refuge under Liu Bei and presumably brought Ma Dai with him. Ma Chao entrusted Ma Dai to Liu Bei shortly before he died.[1]

On orders of Yang Yi, he slew his fellow Shu-Han general Wei Yan around Hanzhong when the latter perpetrated an alleged rebellion and delivered his head to Yang Yi.[2] Although most of his later deeds are unknown, Ma Dai would eventually become General who Pacifies the North and Marquis of Chencang.[1]

He is also known to have led an unsuccessful campaign against Wei.[citation needed]
