Many of the generals could not defeat Lü Bu, including Gongsun Zan, who almost got killed by Lü Bu, but suddenly Zhang Fei showed up and dueled Lü Bu. Many of the coalition members were surprised that Zhang Fei could stand a chance against the mighty Lü Bu. After many bouts, Zhang Fei's sworn brothers Guan Yu and Liu Bei offered to join the battle. It was now three against one. Lü Bu couldn't duel the three brothers at once and took off with his Red Hare horse. Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, and Guan Yu pursued Lü Bu, but Lü Bu's Red Hare horse was a fast steed, and the three brothers could not catch him.

Notes[]

Historically...

  • ...this battle did not take place.
  • ...Hulao Pass existed, but it was not a separate pass from Sishui Pass. They were actually two different names for one and the same pass.
  • ...Lü Bu did not duel Mu Shun, Gongsun Zan, Zhang Fei, Guan Yu or Liu Bei. Historically he had two encounters with Sun Jian and lost both of them.
